Healing With Color Energies

Universal language

Everything on Earth is impacted by color.  Plants, animals, and bacteria all manifest changes in behavior when they are exposed to different colors.  It is also a subconscious language that we use instinctively in every aspect of our lives.

Each color has a unique system of significance and effect.  Gaining an understanding of how this subtle but powerful structure affects us can help us to become empowered in ourselves and how we relate to the world.

Affect on the brain

Color, as light impulses, does not just enter into the visual cortex of the brain, but some nerves run directly from the retina to the hypothalamus.  The hypothalamus is a small region of the brain that plays a crucial role in many important functions including:  Releasing hormones, regulating body temperature, maintaining daily physiological cycles, controlling appetite, managing sexual behavior, and regulating emotional responses.  Near the hypothalamus is the pineal gland, which is directly affected by light coming in through the eyes.  This gland is responsible for regulating our sleep cycles and energy levels so that we can remain in balance with our environment.  The correlation between these two areas of the brain and the subtle energy systems of the body point to the fact that color affects all levels of our being.

The evolution of color in  healing

Color has been used as a healing tool for centuries.  Today, many of the traditional uses of color for therapeutic purposes have remained the same and yet the ancient practices have created a firm foundation for new ideas and applications in the continued search for health and well-being.  In meditation with my clients, I am able to ascertain what each individual’s needs are in terms of color and light.  From there I often work with the client’s chakra system and auric field to create a path forward into integration and well-being.
